Experience first-hand this ancient form of arctic transportation. Drive your own team of dogs as you learn to mush or just relax and enjoy the scenery as a passenger. This is a truly unforgettable experience and a treat for everyone in the family.
Dogsledding is educational and great fun for adults and kids alike. You can experience the power and grace of these very special animals, as you are whisked across snowy meadows and onto a forest trail on a winter's day by the power of these friendly canine athletes.
Dogsleds have been used for hunting and travel as long ago as the 10th century. Dogsledding is one of the most ancient and cultured means of transportation in snow-bound conditions. A dogsled tour carries you through a beautiful snowy landscape powered by these strong animals. A pack of trained, conditioned dogs (usually Huskies) pull a sled behind them, carrying from 1-3 passengers (depending on the vendor). A guide stands on the back of the sled, controlling the "team" and the sled's direction. Many vendors let passenger(s) try their hand at "driving" if interested. This is a fine way to enjoy the winter landscape, away from noise and exhaust pollution found on motorized tours. It is also an ideal tour if you are not as adventurous or physically committed to other mountain adventures; you can sit back and let these amazing creatures do the hard work. Depending on your tour, warm beverages and blankets are provided, but dress for winter outdoor conditions.
