One of the best ways to really view Colorado's beautiful scenery is on horseback. Whether you choose an hourly ride, a cattle round-up ride or a multi-day hut-to-hut horseback ride you are sure to see breathtaking views and wildlife while the guide tells you the history of the area. This is a wonderful activity for the whole family and is sure to be a memory they won't forget. Don't forget to bring your camera.
While you are staying in Summit County, remember that you are on the wild west frontier. One way to harken back to the western basics is to ride the rugged mountainous terrain on a horse, just like the old days. Horseback riding ranges from mellow trail rides to cattle round-ups to sleigh-drawn adventures across the snowy landscape. If you plan to ride a horse, be sure you are comfortable with the logistics: bridle, saddle, stopping and going. Horses are gentle creatures, and especially when using a seasoned local vendor, you will be given all the information you need to safely navigate a trail with your new four-legged friend. However, if you are especially timid around equine or unsure of your confidence atop a horse, consider a different activity.
For a riding adventure, chaps or other rub-proof pants may be recommended. Consult your vendor regarding footwear: but as a rule of thumb, wear sturdy, waterproof, boots or shoes. Your vendor will likely provide a helmet to children, but call ahead to be sure.
