For over a quarter century the Breckenridge Film Festival has celebrated the art of filmmaking.

Each spring a unique and varied array of independent films, premieres, receptions, educational programs and retrospectives honoring featured guests takes place high in the Colorado Rockies. Nationally-known NBC-TV film critic and "Reel Talk" co-host Jeffrey Lyons serves as master of ceremonies and moderator of the discussions and forums. Jeffrey's son, Ben Lyons, co-hosts the Breckenridge Festival of Film. Ben Lyons is the E! Network's resident film expert and can be seen each week on The Daily 10.
The Breckenridge Film Festival was established in 1981, making it one of the oldest film festivals in the country. It is a 501(c)(3), private, non-profit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. Funding for the Festival comes from local public and private grants, sponsorships, fundraising events, individual contributions, in-kind assistance, and revenue from tickets and merchandise. More than 150 individual volunteers, four local theaters and other venues are involved in this annual event.
The mission of the Breckenridge Film Festival is to enrich lives through the ideas and emotions inspired by the art of filmmaking. Inspire . Educate and Entertain. The Festival is also a means to celebrate independent filmmakers, enrich the cultural community of Summit County, Colorado, and provide a educational, creative and inspirational learning environment where participants can focus on their craft and interact intimately with guest filmmakers and mentors through a four-day annual film festival and throughout the year.
The Festival has hosted such guests as Alan Arkin, James Earl Jones, Robert Loggia, Marsha Mason, Sydney Pollack, Mary Steenburgen, Donald Sutherland, Eva Marie Saint, Jon Voight, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jon Favreau, Michael York , Jo Beth Williams and Connie Nielsen, Irvin Kershner, Thomas Haden Church AnnaSophia Robb and DB Sweeney. Educational outreach programs, children’s films, celebrity guests, independent filmmaker forums and other events celebrating the art of film, contribute to the Festival’s diverse program. The University of Colorado at Boulder also presents classic and foreign films with faculty members leading interrelated discussions. Colorado Film Industry hosts the Independent Film Forums and the Friday Film industry Party.
In addition to a prestigious history of films and honorees, the Breckenridge Film Festival offers a wide spectrum of programs on films and filmmaking. The Summit High School Best of Fest is a must see as well as the Independent Film Forums and Celebrity Retrospectives.
In a spectacular setting 9,600 feet above sea level, Breckenridge is located approximately 80 miles west of Denver via interstate highway 70. The town was established in 1859 and retains much of the look and historic charm of its prior heyday as a late 1800’s mining town. Today, Breckenridge is an internationally known ski resort providing summer and fall visitors a myriad of recreational opportunities from biking, hiking, sailing and rafting, to fishing, golf, tennis and horseback riding. Breckenridge is home to two ice rinks, as well as a full recreation center with a climbing wall and skate park. The town offers historical tours, art galleries, shops and fine dining.
